GeoEnergi2017 was arranged May 22nd – 23rd at CMR in Bergen.
The conference was kicked off by Guðmundur Ómar Friðleifsson, chief geologist at HS Orka, giving us “Recent updates from the world's hottest geothermal energy drilling”. The rest of the day was devoted to new opportunities for the oil and gas industry in the geothermal energy sector and included contributions from several industrial companies such as Statoil, Huisman, Geoop and Hammergy. Furthermore, snapshots from research projects within geothermal energy in Norway was presented.
The second day of the conference was devoted to shallow geothermal systems. There were interesting presentations from both industry and research including presentation of the Strategic Innovation Agenda for geoenergy in Sweden by Johan Barth from Svenskt Geoenergicentrum. The conference was concluded with a panel discussion. In addition to Barth, the panel consisted of Marit Dolmen (GCE NODE), Kristin Flornes (IRIS), Thor-Erik Musæus (EGEC) and Einar Østhassel (MEF), who discussed Norway’s role within research, development and use of technology solutions for geothermal energy. This was a good discussion that also engaged the audience in comments and questions to the panel.
The conference gathered 90 participants from both industry and research institutions. Feedback from the conference participants indicates that this is an important meeting place for all the participants in the geothermal energy sector in Norway, both within research and industry.
